About The Event

TIME FOR CHANGE

Between the challenges of COVID-19, an economic recession, and the global protest against police violence, it’s easy to feel confused and isolated. Many acro communities are finding it hard to stay connected and clear about community values with regards to anti-racism and social justice. Many people are struggling with controversy, flame wars on social media, and revelations of the deep differences of opinion in the acro world.

Rather than allow these rifts to destroy our communities, this can be an opportunity for communities to go deeper and build resilience. How do we move beyond tolerance and avoidance of our differences and towards creating change? How can we hold each other accountable with kindness and be actively anti-racist in our movement spaces?

This 4-hour Canada-specific social justice intensive facilitated by Danya Xena and Natalie Brewster Nguyen will give context for the current uprising against racism, and some analysis of systemic racism and oppression. We will workshop the concept of decolonization and offer tools to stay engaged in the work of dismantling oppression in our daily lives and acro spaces.

Creating an inclusive and diverse community doesn’t happen all at once. It takes an ongoing commitment and interest in going beyond inclusivity and towards anti-oppression. Come dive in with us.

Co-hosted by Montreal's AcroMTL Family and Vancouver's AcroCollective. Thanks to Millissa Greenwood and Jill Campbell for the community initiative.
