Systems of Oppression & Antidotes
18 hours of facilitation over 6 sessions
"Systems of Oppression and Antidotes is a course that encourages participants to dig into their own power and possibilities and recognize what actions they are already, and can potentially, take to move toward more liberation, both personally and in community. Danya and Nat are tremendously skilled and experienced and create an environment ripe for learning. The course content is dynamic and inspiring, crafted and selected with care. I can’t recommend this program more."
How do damaging patterns influenced by systems of oppression (ie. the gender binary, White supremacy etc) show up in our lives? There is always more to learn about how we replicate and enforce these systems in ourselves, our work, relationships & organizations. To effectively dismantle these systems, we need to name their concrete effects and impacts. Join us to workshop alternatives and antidotes to these patterns and practice modeling liberation.
For our more in-depth courses, we much prefer that students have taken our Aiming for Allyship course so we all have a similar foundation from which to grow. However, if you haven’t taken a course with us, but would like to join us and have experience in these topics, please feel free to register, and drop us a line telling us a little bit about your background with social justice, allyship, and understanding systems of privilege and oppression.
What to Expect
At Justice Movement we strive to vary our teaching methods and keep things interesting and accessible for a variety of learning styles. We rarely lecture or talk for a long time, and lean heavily on intimate small group sharing, images and tools, and a variety of media (podcasts, articles, videos, poems, etc) for homework. We take breaks during long sessions, and encourage everyone to do what their body needs in order to focus. We also welcome your participation, and love to share the mic. Please let us know if you need specific accommodations, learning tools, or support in order to stay engaged and participate as comfortably as possible.
We offer investment options based on your personal circumstances. This course is offered at a Sliding Scale of from $0-$1080+. For a breakdown of where you might fall, go here 'How much should I pay for a sliding scale course'. These options are suggestions and your contribution allows us to continue practicing radical hospitality and offering all of our courses completely sliding scale. If you are unable to contribute financially, or if there is a different amount that works better for you, feel free to choose a custom amount to contribute. Payment plans are also welcome. All investment options are integrated into the registration form below.

How much should I pay for a sliding scale course?
Sliding scale takes into account your financial situation and circumstances when setting tuition. Sustaining is the higher end of the scale and intended for those with stable incomes and the ability to save. Your ability to support at the higher end allows the course to offer sliding scale tuition! If the "sustaining" option is not a good fit for you, select general, the default investment amount or accessible, intended for students, and others who are getting by but don’t have much extra in their budget. For those with little-to-no income, especially in these difficult economic times, Guest passes are available. If a payment plan would make the course more accessible to you, select Payment Plan and write to us with what will work best for you. If you have the ability and are keen to pay for your spot and one or more others select the Redistributive option.

* Participant Witness
Are those who feel they are entering the space with more experience living with marginalized identities. We recognize that for those in this role, sharing those lived experiences is deeply valuable, and requires more emotional labor. We honor that labor. It is always invited, never expected. As you sign up, please select the “participant witness” option in the registration form, and let us know what feels best for you to contribute from zero on up. We benefit from your added voice. We like to remind everyone that all of our identities are intersectional - by this we mean that we are all a combination of our many identities (race, ethnicity, gender-identity, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigration status, physical and mental ability, body type, body size, religion, political beliefs and etc.). Most of us are not fully marginalized or fully privileged in society. Most of us experience a combination of both privilege and marginalization as we move through life. We believe that all of us have something to gain from working on Allyship and delving into areas in which we are less aware.
